That is the question I am regularly confronted with. I know, it seems a little strange, doesn’t it? My knee-jerk reaction is to say that I just can’t keep a real job. That isn’t the real reason, though. I have been involved with Pregnancy Resource Ministries since 1990, and from the very first days I have had a stirring in my heart about the work.

My short answer to the question is pretty simple. For every woman that walks through the front door of a pregnancy center anywhere in the country, or the world for that matter, there is at least one guy involved. And for every woman that walks through the front door of an abortion facility, there is also at least one guy involved. So, like it or not, guys are involved in the problem of unplanned pregnancy and guys are part of the solution(s) as well.

I am a firm believer that unless the hearts of men change regarding their children, there can be no significant change in the abortion landscape. The issue is less about politics and science and more about the heart than we have given it credit for. Simply put, men’s hearts need to change, and as that happens society’s collective heart can change as well.

As I post on this blog, I will be sharing pieces of my story as well as the practical steps a man can take to have his heart changed so he can impact the heart of a younger guy that has intersected his life. This blog is designed to be a dialogue between men that desire to coach a young man with the Father’s Heart. We will be talking about what that is and how it can be expressed.

I am not a “know-it-all” by any stretch of the imagination. At times I may sound like one, but it isn’t my intention to convince you that my way is the only way. But I will honestly share from my life what I do know. I will try not to be speculative or generic. When I make a definitive statement it will be because I have experienced it in my own life.

Today, as I look at who I am and the person God is shaping me into, I can honestly say that I would not be who or where I am if it had not been for God working miraculously through a Pregnancy Resource Ministry and the people He had called to it.

There is a move afoot in these wonderful ministries to help the guys who are involved with the clients they serve. Many different approaches will be tried and developed over time to accomplish the task. Some may prove to be more effective than what I share with you.

Today, however, I know that what I will share with you and encourage you to engage in works. I know that it changes the lives of the men it touches. I know that it changes the hearts of the men who engage in it. I know that it equips men to fulfill their God-given call to be providers, protectors, and priests. I know that it affirms a guy in his true manhood. And I know that it will change future generations.

How do I know these things? How can I be so sure?

Because I am that guy!

My own life is marked by these life-changing experiences and many more because God sent a gray-haired man into my life to coach me through the treacherous waters of manhood. And that same God can use you the very same way.

As you join me in this journey, be prepared for things to change. Let me know what they are so we can work through them together.

The first words my “coach ” said to me were, “Hi, my name is Loren. I am glad that you are here and I can see that God has his hand on your life. I want you to know that I appreciate you and that I am available to you at any time. If you ever want to talk, ask a question, pray or just visit, call me and I will make time for you.”

Good coaching starts with a sincere introduction and an expression of availability. But follow-up is the proof of your sincerity. Two days later, Loren called me and invited me to have breakfast with him. Our friendship began at that breakfast and it has lasted for the last 20 years.

Has anyone ever said those words or similar ones to you? Have you ever said those words or something similar to a younger man? What were the results?
